RE: Cactus Inn on 90th st
I used to live next to these people at their other location and had nothing but trouble, motorcycles starting at 3:00 in the morning (no mufflers). Beer bottles all over the place, fights and yelling. I moved to antelope acres and now they are a stones throw from us again, SHEEEEEEZE!

RE: Cactus Inn on 90th st
I was at the Antelope Acres Town Council meeting and I heard a lot of horror stories about these people at the cactus Inn. It was mentioned that there is a operating beer tap at the premises and no license. People are using the building for gatherings already and no permit. This is a matter to discuss at the community Center meeting.

The meeting wasn't very productive, The motocycle guy showed up in full colors, 3 cops, and a mad store owner, made for a volatile situation. Lets hope the atmosphere get better.

How can they sell booze with houses so close to the bar. I thought there was a specific distance that had to be enforced.

Witnesses sought in SoCal killing pinned on gang

Saturday, October 25, 2008 2:45 AM PDT ?
LANCASTER, Calif. - Authorities are seeking additional witnesses in a barroom slaying cited in an indictment against a Southern California-based motorcycle gang that was the target this week of a multistate federal sweep.

Detectives believe people are reluctant to provide information about the February 14 death of Leon Huddleston, 26, because they fear retribution by the Mongol Motorcycle Club, whose members are suspected in the slaying.

"Any time you have gangs involved, whether it's motorcycle gangs or rival street gangs, it's extremely difficult to get people to come forward because of the fear of retaliation," Los Angeles County sheriff's Detective Steve Lankford, the lead investigator on the case, told the Los Angeles Times in a story posted Saturday on the paper's Web site.

Huddleston was shooting pool in a crowded Lancaster bar when he was cracked over the head with a pool cue and kicked repeatedly in the ribs by two men who appeared to be members of a motorcycle gang, authorities said.

Huddleston's alleged killers are Norberto Jose Montes, who goes by the nickname "Villain," and Klint Austin Melcer, who goes by "Danger."

Montes was arrested along with more than 60 other Mongols during a series of raids Tuesday across Southern California and in Nevada, Oregon, Colorado, Washington and Ohio. Melcer remains at large.

The slaying is one of four mentioned in a federal racketeering indictment that included charges of murder, attempted murder, assault, as well as gun and drug violations, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives officials said.

Lankford, the lead investigator on the Huddleston case, said Montes and Melcer were identified as suspects based on a tip implicating the two Mongols from an informant who wasn't even in the bar the evening of the killing.

That information was used as leverage to persuade a couple of witnesses to cooperate, he said.

Huddleston, a high school dropout from the Central Valley, was living in Lancaster to serve his probation on a drug conviction, according to his father, who asked not to be named because he was fearful of the Mongols.

Huddleston's father said the loss was particularly painful because he believed his son was beginning to turn a corner in his life.

"Everybody deserves a second chance," he said. "My son lost his."

I drove by the other day and there was a big hole in the Cactus inn parking lot, and 3 fellows were looking in the hole with disgust, like they didn't like what they saw.

Back ages ago there were underground tanks, maybe they found them. Now what are they going to do with them????????????

Threat of retaliation hangs over Lancaster bar slaying
Leon Huddleston's alleged killers are members of the Mongols motorcycle gang. Nobody who was present when the Pizza Hut employee was beaten to death has stepped forward to testify.

By Scott Glover
October 25, 2008

As killings go, Leon Huddleston's should have been relatively easy to solve.

The 26-year-old Pizza Hut employee was shooting pool in a crowded bar when he was cracked over the head with a pool cue and kicked repeatedly in the ribs by a pair of rough-looking biker types, authorities said.

At least a dozen people were in the pool room of Young's Bar and Grill in Lancaster when the fatal beating took place, the bartender would later recall. But when sheriff's detectives arrived and began asking questions, no one seemed to have seen anything. A tape from a surveillance camera that would have helped investigators determine who was there that night was missing, and the crime scene had been cleaned up.

Frustrated homicide detectives and the victim's father say there's a reason people were so reluctant to help: The alleged assailants were members of the Mongols motorcycle gang, who according to a sweeping federal indictment made public earlier this week were willing to commit such brazen crimes precisely "because they believe victims and witnesses are afraid to testify against them."

The circumstances surrounding Huddleston's slaying represent another hallmark of the Mongols' violence, according to authorities. The young man, who was known to be mouthy at times, somehow irked or disrespected members of the gang -- and he paid the price.

In Huddleston's case, the price was a fractured skull, some broken ribs and, ultimately, his life.

Huddleston's slaying is one of four mentioned in the 177-page indictment, which is based largely on the observations of four undercover agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives who infiltrated the gang. The indictment accuses the Mongols of racketeering, drug trafficking, weapons offenses and money laundering.

The gang members are also accused of numerous acts of violence involving guns, knives, brass knuckles, lead pipes and steel-toed boots. They shot, stabbed and beat members of their rivals, the Hells Angels, and terrorized ordinary citizens as well, authorities allege.

Huddleston's alleged killers are Norberto Jose Montes, a.k.a. "Villain," and Klint Austin Melcer, who goes by "Danger."

Montes was arrested along with 60 other Mongols during a series of early morning raids Tuesday. Melcer remains at large.

Huddleston, a high school dropout from the Central Valley, was living in Lancaster to serve his probation on a drug conviction, according to his father, who asked not to be named because he was fearful of the Mongols.

The father said his son was temporarily living in a homeless shelter a couple of blocks from the bar until he'd completed his probation.

He'd just landed a job at a nearby Pizza Hut, the first he'd had in some time, which his father took as sign that he was getting his life together.

Tony Shy, a resident attendant at the Lancaster Community Shelter, said Huddleston was thrilled to have a job many people wouldn't want: washing dishes and answering the phone at Pizza Hut.

"He came running in here, 'Tony, I got a job, I got a job,' " Shy recalled in a recent interview. He said Huddleston had taken to bringing home leftover pizza to share with other residents of the shelter.

Shy said Huddleston could be a little "wild" at times, "but he was fine if you knew how to handle him."

"I liked him," he added.

But Shy said Huddleston occasionally got into arguments with other residents and had a hard time walking away from a dispute. He said the 5-foot-9, 180-pound Huddleston once boasted that he'd never lost a fight.

"Don't worry, one day you will," Shy said he told him.

About 9 p.m. on Valentine's Day, Huddleston made the short walk to Young's, a smoky neighborhood bar that caters to a blue-collar clientele, including members of the Mongols and Vagos biker gangs. Huddleston had taken to shooting pool and drinking draft beer at the bar after he got the job at Pizza Hut.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Det. Steve Lankford, the lead investigator on the case, said the key break was a tip from an informant who wasn't even in the bar the evening Huddleston was killed. The informant, whom he declined to identify, implicated the two Mongols in the slaying. Lankford and his partner then used that information as leverage to persuade a couple of witnesses to cooperate.

"Any time you have gangs involved, whether it's motorcycle gangs or rival street gangs, it's extremely difficult to get people to come forward because of the fear of retaliation," Lankford said.

What detectives were ultimately able to piece together was that the larger of the two men, Montes, who weighs nearly 300 pounds, hit Huddleston from behind with a pool cue.

When he fell to the ground, both Mongols began to kick and stomp him, the detectives said.

Huddleston was taken to a local hospital, where he spent a week in a drug-induced coma, his father said.

His family decided to take him off life support "because he was already gone," the elder Huddleston said.

Huddleston's father said the loss was particularly painful because he believed his son was beginning to turn a corner in his life. In addition to getting the job, he'd recently opened a bank account. The balance was just $10 on the day he was killed, his father said. But it was a start.

"Everybody deserves a second chance," he said. "My son lost his."

Harry Young, who is part-owner of the bar and was working the night Huddleston was attacked, acknowledged there was no tape in the surveillance camera and that he took the pool cue used in the beating and placed it behind the bar. Young said he didn't know why there was no tape in the camera that evening. The only reason he moved the cue, he said, was because he didn't realize how seriously Huddleston had been injured.

"I was just cleaning up," he said in a recent interview at the bar. "The sooner I got cleaned up, the sooner I got out of there."

Young said he was tending bar and could not see into the pool room while the attack was occurring. He said he had no idea if Mongols were involved. The Mongols who occasionally visit the bar, he said, "are pretty nice people."

RE: Cactus Inn on 90th st
How could an informant who was not in the bar break the case? Maybe it's these kinds of informants that get special protection so they can openly harass innocent victims and get away with it--like what has happened to the Konstantelos family. It could be you if you p--s off an important confidential informant unknowingly and then the sheriff's and county may try to crush you to secure your conviction. I want bad guys caught too, but when are innocent bystanders, etc. protected? If they were...maybe they would come forward too.

This creatin is still posting the articles as of 1/20/09. Sometimes he drives a blue Jeep with multicolored stripes on the side & white top. Now he's driving a Silver Dodge Ram pick-up and hiding the jeep behind his garage. The pick-up is the same one that he hit the pediatrician in the head with while he was driving drunk back in '02. He's not licensed or insured and usually drunk... so watch out. These bullies are a menace to society. The other creatin putting up the fliers drives 2 different Silver PT Cruisers. Watch out for him as well. He has funny looking eyeballs. They peer out in different directions which makes him a Shifty fellow. He's large and can't move too quick and likes to hang out with Art at both his markets. AA Market and Wee-Ville on Rt.138. I don't think there's a planet in the Universe that would want these lowly life forms..... but you never know.

RE: Cactus Inn on 90th st
I don't want a dangerous business near my home, but I would like a place other than the market or any other store owned by Art and Judi to go to out here. So would people who commute b/w here and Kern--I have several friends who would meet me at such a place for a beer and burger. I don't know if the Cactus Inn will be that kind of place or not but the county should treat all business owners the same and make everyone jump through the same hoops or the government can pick and choose who IT likes. If the sheriffs have proof the Cactus Inn is misleading us or lying to us I would like to see the information. I want to feel I am making an informed decision. I know rumors can kill careers when untrue. It the rumors are true...please post or bring the info forward for us to see.

On 2/18/09 a Sheriff Expert on gangs testified in a trial in Lancaster Superior Court on the topic of the Vagos. While he stated they are a gang with colors, etc.; in the afternoon, during cross examination he admitted the Mojave chapter has a different reputation and he knows no incidents with them in seven years. He was asked if he considered them a danger to the public and he said no.
